“The Beijing Platform for Action is a step in the right direction. As women we must ensure that we don’t stop moving until gender equity is achieved!”

-- Mónica Zetzsche, President, World YWCA

Beijing+10 was the ten-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action. It took place at the 49th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) from February 28 to March 11, 2005 at UN Headquarters in New York. During CSW 2005, successes and challenges in the implementation of the Beijing Platform were assessed, and strategies to address women’s empowerment and advancement in the future were identified.

The Beijing Platform for Action is an agenda for women’s empowerment endorsed by UN member states in 1995. The World YWCA believes that it is vital for women around the world, from community to international levels, to become engaged in the implementation of this multi-government agreement as well as complemenatary agreements such as the Milenium Development Goals. These agreements provide an opportunity for women to monitor governments’ progress, work collaboratively with governments, and hold them accountable for their actions.
