The Trade for People - Not People for Trade campaign is an initiative of the Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance, of which the World YWCA is a founding member. The campaign is working to engage churches and church-related organisations to promote trade justice.
Trade for People calls for prioritising human rights agreements over trade agreements.
Campaign focus areas:
- · right to food
- access to essential services
- regulation of transnational corporations
Campaign objectives :
- trade rules and practices that further the right to food and sustainable agriculture, and promote greater self-reliance in developing countries
- global and national policies and trade rules that ensure access for all to essential services as defined by human rights principles
- regulation of transnational corporations (TNCs) that ensures that they contribute to poverty eradication, promotion of human rights and protection of the environment
