Today, world peace with justice is one of four global priorities for the YWCA, with associations in 44 countries actively engaging in peace-building advocacy and programmes. YWCAs operating in conflict situations have developed innovative responses to the particular needs of their communities with 17 countries offering refugee programmes, and 18 countries advocating for women’s rights in wartime. Over the past quadrennium, the World YWCA has organised international observers to Palestine and Israel, and coordinated solidarity visits to Liberia and Sierra Leone to promote global responses to the impact of armed conflict and illegal occupation.
